Udaipur

The capital of the Rajput kingdom of Mewar, Udaipur was ruled by the Sisodia clan. It was founded by Rana Udai Singh who had established his capital earlier near Banas river at Nagda. In 1568, the capital was moved to Udaipur after Mughal Emperor Akbar captured Chittor. In 1818, Udaipur became a princely state of British India. After India's Independence in 1947, the Maharaja of Udaipur acceded to the Government of India, and Mewar was integrated into India's Rajasthan state. Today, Udaipur is one of the most popular tourist destination of Rajasthan. Surrounded by Aravali hills, Udaipur is also known as city of lakes. The lakes of Pichola, Fatehsagar, Jai Samand and Rajsamand enhances the beauty of this valley. Lake Pichola in particular is the main attraction and a large number of small and luxury hotels surround the lake including famous Lake Palace within the lake.

Climate :
Udaipur has tropical climate. The highest temperature during peak summer of May and June is recorded around 42°C and lowest around 28°C. The winters record lowest temperature around 3°C and highest as 28°C.

Important Tourist sites :
City Palace, Lake Pichola, Jagdish Temple, Sahellion-ki-Bari, Fatehsagar Lake, Monsoon Palace, Jag Mandir Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal, Moti Magri (memorial of Maharana Pratap), Rose Garden are some of the prominent places to visits.

General:
Hindi, English and Rajasthani are the most commonly spoken languages. In general interaction within the locals, Rajasthani is the language spoken while almost everyone understands Hindi as well. Small scale industries such as Dari & carpet weaving, tie and dye, hand printed fabrics, miniature paintings, embroidery, shoes and sandals etc are manufactured.

Travel :

By Air : Udaipur has an airport that connects flights to various cities within India.
There are daily flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Jodhpur. Same day connecting flights are available to Goa, Cochin, Chennai, Varanasi, Bangalore, Trivandrum, Hyderabad etc..

By Train :
There are regular train services from Udaipur to Ajmer, Jaipur, Delhi, Chittorgarh, Sawai Madhopur and few other cities.
