Pench National Park is situated Madhya Pradesh. The forest is south Indian tropical moist deciduous (slightly moist). The total area of the reserve is 757.86 sq. km. Pench sanctuary covers an area of 449.39 sq km out of which core area is 292.85 sq km. Its name - Pench Tiger Reserve is named on Pench River, flowing from north to south across the Reserve. The Reserve lies in Satpura Fill Ranges’ southern reaches in the Seoni and Chinaware districts in the Madhya Pradesh. The land is wealthy enough as most of the area here is covered by small hill ranges, steeply sloping on the sides. A belt like forest is spread in three directions: north, east and south as well as covering forest tracts of Seoni, Balaghat and Nagpur districts. Recently, Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru National Park, on the southern side in the Maharashtra state of India, has been includes in the Project Tiger network by the same name as this Reserve.

A dam was constructed on the Pench River on south-eastern boundary of the Reserve.

Moderate climate with variance during summer and winter. October, November and March records low of 25⁰C and high of 35⁰C. December-February are winter months with low of 2°C and high of 18°C. April to June are hot months when temperature remains between 35-45°C on the higher side.

Important Tourist sites/species: Tiger, Leopard, Jungle Cat, Leopard Cat, Striped Hyena, Wild Dog, Wolf, Common Mongoose, Sloth Bear, Pangolin, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Barking Deer, Blue Bull, Wild Pig and Gaur etc.

Reptiles: Fresh water crocodile, Indian Chameleon, Common Krait, Indian Rock Python, Cobra, Indian Flap Shell Turtle, Peninsular black turtle etc.

Fishes: Padhan, Jhunda, Chalar, Mahur, Mrigal, Sanbal, Dadai, Kunda, Rohu, Calbasu and Mahasir etc.

General: Park remains closed from 1st July to 15th October every year during monsoon. Post monsoon, it takes over a month for the park authorities for maintenance before park is open for tourists from 16th October every year.

By Air: Nagpur, 80 km is the nearest airport well connected with major cities in India such as Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune

By Train: Nagpur is the nearest railway station. Strategically located in Maharashtra state, Nagpur is very well connected with major centres of India. There are daily train services from Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and several other cities.
