Jaisalmer

The Tribes of Punjab known as Bhattis, were the original local inhabitants of Jaisalmer who moved there after being driven out. Deoraj, a famous prince of Bhatti Clan was the real founder of Jaisalmer. In 1156, Rawal Jaisal founded the fort and city of Jaisalmer. The present Jaisalmer with a rugged Fort with several temples and pavilions within is the landmark of the city. Very fine sculpted havelies (mansions) were the homes of the affluent members in the royal court and traders.

Climate :
Jaisalmer being in the heart of Thar Desert has very temperate weather. Summer day temperature in May & June rise abruptly to 45◦C and cools down rapidly after sunset. Average temperature during summer remains high of 42◦C and low of 27◦C. Winter records low of around 7◦C and high of 24◦C.

Places of Interest :
Jaisalmer Fort built in 1156 which had been the scenes of many battles. Within the fort are temples and royal Palace. The present day Fort has several small hotels, shops, boutiques within. Beautifully carved and sculpted havelies are located within the walking distance to the fort. The most important ones are Patwon Ki Havei, Salam Singh ki Haveli, Haveli Shreenath. Loudrva, Amarsagar and Brahmsar are the important Jain pilgrimage centres. The Museum contains some of the rare manuscripts and artifacts of Jain tradition.

Traveling to Jaisalmer :

By Air : As of now, commercial flights to Jasialmer are suspended.

By Train : Jaisalmer has regular train services to Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner.

By Road : Jaipur (637 km), Jodhpur (287 km), Bikaner (333 km). Rohet (320 km), Osian (60 km), Manvar (110 km), Bikaner (335 km), Khimsar (325 km)
