Delhi


Delhi located on the west bank of river Yamuna, the capital and soul of India, has a history that goes back to 3000 years when it was initially called as Indraprastha, referred in our religious epic Mahabharta.  Since then, it has been constructed and reconstructed at-least 5 times. The city was invaded several times and has been seat of different rulers over a period  such as Mauryans, Chauhans, Slave Dynasty, Afghans , Sayyid, Lodhis, Mughals and British before India became an independent souvenir country in 1947.The First Prime Minister of independent India -  Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru delivered historic speech from the Red Fort on 15th August.

Climate

Delhi has a long spell of summer that extends from April to September.
The high temperature ranges between 40-45⁰C during the months of April to June while lowest temperature is around 5⁰C during the months of December to February. The drastic change in weather is witnessed from time to time due to impact of snowfall in  higher ranges of Himalayas in the north. 

Important Tourist sites :
Every ruler who acquired seat of power in Delhi had made a contribution to the wealth of monuments in this ancient and modern city.  There are over 100 such places, many of them in ruins, which have their own saga of history.  The most important and frequently visited places are The Red Fort, Jama Mosque, Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate (War memorial), Qutab Minar, Lodhi Tomb and Gardens, Bahai Temple (Lotus temple), Akshardham Temple,  Laxmi Narayan Temple (also called Birla Temple), Govt. Buildings, Parliament House, President’s House and several museums such as National Museum of India, Gandhi Museum and many others.

General :
Delhi being the capital of India, it has witnessed migration of people from all over the country in search of job or business.  As such, Hindi is the main language spoken all over Delhi.  English is also widely spoken and there is strong presence of Punjabis, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians and migrants from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Kerala.
