Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh lies in the southern part of Rajasthan, to the east of Udaipur. It is believed that Bhim the legendary figure of the Mahabharata, visited this place to learn the secrets of immortality and became the disciple of a sage. A water reservoir BhimLat is named after him. It came under Mauryas or Muri Rajputs, and later to the Mewar ruler and remained the capital of Mewar till 1568. It's believed that Bappa Rawal the legendary founder of Sisodia clan, received Chittorgarh in the middle of 8th century, as a part of the dowry after marriage with 1st Solanki princess, after that his descendants ruled Mewar which stretched from Gujrat to Ajmer, upto the 16th century. Chittorgarh is known for its massive fort which stands tall over a 180 meter high hillock covering a massive area of 700 acres. The fort is believed to have been built by the Maurya rulers in 7th century A.D.

Climate:
It has cold winter, very hot summer and sub tropical monsoon. Mid March to Mid June are hot summer months with average temperature of 32 to 45°C of low and high. Winter months of December and January record 28°C high and low of 5°C.

Places of Interest :
Chittorgarh is best known for its massive Fort which has a difficult access. Built in massive area of 700 acres, it has 84 water bodies that include lake, pond stepwells. The places worth visiting are Tower of Victory, Tower of Fame, Gaumukh Reservoir, Rana Kumbha Palace, Padmini Palace, Meera Temple, Kalika Mata Temple, Fateh Prakash Palace (Museum) and Jain temples.
