Bhubaneswar, the city of temples is the largest city of Orissa state. An important economic and religious centre of architectural heritage, its history is over 2000 years old. The most infamous Kalinga war in 3rd century BC was held in south of present Bhubaneswar. The city had various names during different dynasties that ruled this city and the state of Orissa. The city once dotted with over 600 temples has some of the magnificent temples in the entire India. Many of these temples are still in perfect state. The modern city was designed by German architect Otto Konigsbereger in 1946 and is considered the cleanest after Chandigarh and the most greenest.

Climate :
Located on the coastal plains in the north east, the city has a tropical weather. Summers are hot and average temperature during April to June remains between 40-45◦C. The winters are mild with low of 10◦C and high of 32-35◦C.

Bhubaneswar, the city of temples, at one point had over a thousand temples. There are still a large number of temples in the heart of city which reminds of glorious period of temple architectural development in this state. The most important are Lingaraja Temple, Lakshmanesvara group of temples, Parasuramesvara Temple, Svarnajalesvra Temple, Muktesvara Temple, Rajarani Temple, Vaital Temple, Brhamesvara temple, Meghesvara temple, Vaskaresvara Temple, Ananta Vasudeva Temple, Sari Temple, Kapilesvara Temple, Markandesvara temple, Yamesvara temple, Chitrakarini temple, Sisiresvara Temple. The few temples built in recent times are Ram Mandir, Maa Kanakdurga Pitha,ISKON etc..
