Bhopal city stands at a site founded by Raja Bhoja, then called Bhojapal. The founder of the existing city was Afghan soldier Dost Mohammad (1708-1740). Bhopal was 2nd largest Muslim state pre-independence. It was ruled by four powerful Begums from 1819 to 1926. It was one of the last princely states which was declared as capital of Madhya Pradesh after India’s independence in August 1947. It has two beautiful lakes which is one of the prime attractions.

Climate :
Bhopal has humid sub-tropical climate. The peak summer month is May when temperature rises to around 40⁰C. June to September are monsoon time and Bhopal experiences high rainfall. The winter low is around 5⁰C and high of 18⁰C. Due to its presence of lake within the city, the summer months cool down considerably in the evenings.

Taj-ul-Masajid, one of the largest mosques in Asia and few other mosques; Lakshmi Narayan Temple (Birla Mandir) ; Bharat Bhavan – main cultural centre of Bhopal ; Vidhan Bhawan which houses the Vidhana Sabha of the state, The Van Vihar National Park or its kind. An open zoo with vast area, lakes houses some of the rare wildlife species in its natural habitat. The city also has some of the historic buildings from 18th and 19th century and two lakes which are also famous picnic spot of the city.
