Bangalore (Bengaluru) lies at an altitude of 949 M , draped over the Deccan Plateau which makes this city pleasant round the year.  The city was designed by Kempe Gowda in the year 1537. According to historical facts, during one of his hunting bouts, Kempe Gowda saw a hare chase his dog and thus named the place as "gandu bhoomi" (heroic place). Kempe Gowda I, who was in charge of Yelahanka, built a mud fort in 1537 and with the help of King Achutaraya, and  little towns of Balepet, Cottonpet and Chickpet, all inside the fort. Today, these areas are major wholesale and commercial market places in the city.

Today’s Bangalore (now renamed as Bengaluru) is one of the most flourishing cities of India.  The hub of IT industry, all big famous names associated with Information and Technology are located in the city and outskirts in Whitefield area.  Popularly called as Silicon valley, the city is also major centre for electronic industry.  The capital of Karnataka, the city has many public gardens – also known as garden city of India; imposing buildings and temples. The city also hosts the prestigious Aero Show which is held every 2nd year.

Climate :
Due to its high elevation, the city remains pleasant round the year.  The  coolest month is January with a low temperature of 15 Degree C and highest temperature is in the month of April around 35 degree.  Because of its geographical location, the city gets substantial rain, mostly in the months of August, September and October.  Other months also experience shower as and when temperature rises above normal.

Important Tourist sites :
Vidhana Soudha, housing the Legislative Chambers of the state Govt. is most imposing structure.  Building in early 15th century, it is landmark of the city.  The other places of tourist attractions are Banalore Palace, Cubbon Park, Tippu’s Summer Palace, Fort, number of Museums and Art Galleries and Raka Krishna Mutt.

General :
Like other metropolitan cities, Bangalore has migrants from other states of India.  Kannada is the official language.  English is widely spoken.  Other language speaking communities that live here are Punjabis, Muslims, Jains, Persians, Christians and Sikhs.  Ultra modern food joints and restaurants are located around the famous M.G. Road.  Bangalore has also retained its cultural treasure and have several cultural centres for Music and Art.  Regular performances and events are staged on special occasions and during religious months.

Travel :
By Air : Bangalore has a new  international airport which is at a distance of 50 km from the city.  All major airlines from Europe, USA, UK, African countries,  Far East, Middle East countries fly here.  Domsetic flights Jet Airways, Kingfisher, Indian Airlines and Spice Jet and others have regular service that connects Bangalore with Chennai, Trivandrum, Cochin, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Goa, Delhi, Ahmedabad and many other cities.

By Train : From Bangalore, one can travel to Mysore, Chennai, Madurai, Rameshwaram, Hassan, Hospet, Goa, Mumbai, Delhi, Agra, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Indore and many other important cities.
