Ajmer (Rajasthan) surrounded by the Aravalli Mountains lies almost in central Rajasthan., The city was named after its founder, Raja Ajai Pal Chauhan, who founded it in the 7th century. Since then, Chauhans reigned over Ajmer till Prithviraj Chauhan lost the city to Mohammed Ghauri. Ajmer is now a trade center for manufactured goods including wool, textiles, hosiery, shoes, soap, and pharmaceuticals. Poultry farming is a major source of income for the urban farmers. The nearby town of Kishangarh is one of the largest markets for marble and marble products.

Ajmer has hot summers and cool winters. The maximum temperature in summer (from March to June) is around 45ºC. In winters (from November to February), days are sunny and pleasant, temperature hovering between 22-27ºC but nights are bit cooler and temperature drops to 5-6ºC during the month of December and January.

Ajmer is most famous for Dargah Sharif, Tomb of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moin-ud-din-Chisti which is visited by large number of Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs round the year, Taragarh Fort on the outskirts of the city and Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra. Ajmer is also known for Mayo College with its impressive architecture and high standard education. Holy city Pushkar lies at a distance of 13 km.
