Agra located on the banks of river Yamuna. According to legend, the city was founded by Raja Badal Singh in 1457. However, there are conflicting information about the former founder and rulers. The city remained as Capital of the Mughals Emperors from 1526-1658. The city earned its name worldwide because of famous World heritage monuments, The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and others. Today, it still remains the most popular tourist destination in India and is a hub for marble industry and products, leather shoes, inlay work etc.

Agra has a long spell of summer that extends from mid March to September.
The high temperature ranges between 40-45 degree C during the months of April to June while lowest temperature is around 7 degree during the months of December to February.
May is the hottest month when temperature can reach its peak of 45 degree during the day time.

Important Tourist sites :
Taj Mahal completed in 1653 was built by Emperor Shahjehan in memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal; Agra Fort built by Emperor Akbar in 1565, Fatehpur Sikri also built by Emperor Akbar to move as capital city and later abandoned due to shortage of water, Sikandra was planned by Emperor Akbar as him Tomb and was completed by his son Jehangir in 1613. Itimad-ud-Daulah built by Empress Noor Jehan in memory of her father. These are all world heritage monuments in Agra. Other places to visit are Dayal Bagh, Rambagh, Chini ka Rauza, Jami Masjid, Arts and Crafts Centre.

General :
Hindi is most commonly spoken language in Agra. A smaller section of society speaks Punjabi and Urdu. Small scale industry are spread over a large area in Agra which are mainly involved in auto ancillaries, leather wears, marble inlay work, jari work, carpet weaving etc.

Travel : By Air : Agra has a domestic airport. At present, there are no flights to this city.

By Train :
There are regular train services from Agra to Delhi, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Varanasi, Patna, Lucknow, Kolkata, Jhansi, Bhopal, Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati, Ahemdabad, Amritsar and Haridwar.

By Road: Mathura (50 km), Bharatpur (50 km), Fatehpur Sikri (40 km), Deeg (120 km), Gwalior (120 km), Jhansi (225 km), Khajuraho (400 km), Lucknow (363 km), Jaipur (235 km), Ranthambhore (318 km)
